My review of the Nokia N8 comes to an end today. It’s been an interesting two weeks of testing and reviewing the phone. Here’s a summary of the Nokia N8.
The Nokia N8 touch screen phone runs the latest Symbian ^3 which supports high definition videos, with a HMDI TV output that is capable of producing picture quality up to 720p. The phone has a 12 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash which captures great photos for indoor and outdoor. However close up photos and videos turn out blur.
The Nokia Ovi Navigation is one of the fastest GPS to lock a satellite signal which is fantastic but the maps need to be updated as some roads in the Petaling Jaya area are still missing when other GPS maps like Malsingmaps already has these roads since two years ago.
The phone also has a social network widget which can be added to the home screen and by default, its added to the first home screen. It’s useful for previewing your friend’s Facebook or Twitter update but I faced a bit of problem in the beginning as the software could not accept my password as it contained a special character. It was solved when I changed to a simpler password.
The Nokia N8 has a built in FM radio transmitter to broadcast the songs you play on the phone to a car stereo or radio. I wished iPhone has this feature built in.
The Symbian software on Nokia smart phones are still buggy after all these years. Nokia should put some effort into making Symbian more stable if they are serious in capturing the smart phone market. Let’s hope the next update will make the phone more stable.
Overall, the Nokia has included many fantastic features into the Nokia N8. It’s a great all-in-one phone but a bit buggy. This phone is now available from any Maxis outlet from as low as RM999.
Once again, I would like to thank Maxis for giving me the opportunity to review the Nokia N8 and looking forward to doing more reviews in the future.
