After a 3.5 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, we arrive at Holiday Villa Beach Resort Cherating. The resort complex consist of 2 & 3 story room blocks and traditional Malay-style chalets. The hotel has two swimming pools and a beautiful beach front. I found myself spending more time at the beach than at the pool. The room are clean and comfortable but an upgrade will make it better as the furniture is styled in the old fashioned brown wood.

Choice of food outside the hotel is rather limited. They are mainly Malay food. As one friend did not eat Malay food, we had to drive approx. 20kms to Chukai Kemanan where there is a choice of KFC, A&W or Pizza Hut.

The breakfast is rather good. It’s served buffet style with a variety of local and western food. I love the nasi lemak as the sambal is really good. I had a few helpings of it. Unfortunately the sambal was not served the next day as they had noodles instead of nasi lemak at the breakfast table.

The following night, we went to Kuantan for dinner. It’s approx. 40kms and travel is easy as there is a highway from Cherating to Kuantan. The road signs are not very clear, therefore a GPS or map will be useful. The selection food is much better in Kuantan compared to Chukai.

Overall, Cherating is a great place to relax as there is nothing much to do besides that.
